A good prune reads the tree first. Which limbs have poor attachment, where the deadwood sits, what is rubbing, what is hanging over the roof. Then it takes off the least that solves the problem, at the right point, so the tree seals the cut and keeps its shape. Done properly you should not be able to tell we were there, except the tree looks like it did ten years ago.
We also do hedges, from privet removals to shaping a long boundary hedge, and we chip the lot on site.

Questions about this service
What is the difference between pruning and lopping?
Lopping cuts large limbs back to stubs with no regard for where the cut lands. It triggers weak regrowth, opens the tree to decay and usually makes the canopy denser and more dangerous within a few years. Pruning is selective: each branch is chosen, cut at the collar so the wound seals, and limited to what the tree can afford. We prune to Australian Standard AS 4373. We do not lop, and a lot of our work is repairing trees that were.
How much can you take off?
Usually no more than a quarter of the live canopy in one go; more than that stresses the tree. For heavy reductions we stage the work over two visits, which is what we did for a Port Wine Magnolia in the reviews below.
Can you prune near powerlines?
Trees near powerlines have set clearances: 1 metre from service lines, 1.5 metres from low-voltage lines and 2 metres from high-voltage lines. Work inside those clearances must be done by an Evoenergy-accredited operator. Confirm: LiRo accredited, or subcontracted to an accredited partner Either way we will tell you at the quote.
How often should trees be pruned?
Most mature trees in Canberra do well with a look every two to three years. Fast growers over roofs and driveways, and anything with a history of dropping limbs, more often. A yearly deadwood check on big gums near the house is money well spent.
